Jewel Of The Seas

Crew: 859
Launched: April 2004
Decks: 12
Tonnage: 90,090
Passengers: 2,501
Registry: Bahamas

Jewel of the Seas is a 90,090 ton, 2,500 passenger vessel that was the fourth and last of this class of ship for Royal Caribbean. The other members of this class are Radiance of the Seas, the Brilliance of the Seas and Serenade of the Seas. Each is a shimmering example of Royal Caribbean's unique styling and innovative lifestyle choices of activities available on board whether it be in the area of dining, activity or cabin selection.

Jewel of the Seas offers plenty of options, from dining to entertainment. When first launched, she was considered a giant, but by current measurements she would be considered to be a more mid sized ship. The wide range of choices of lifestyle activities this ship offers makes it the perfect choice for many types of travelers such as singles , passengers on family vacations, or couples and groups.

Jewel Of The Seas Cruises

Glass Walls Provide Magnificent Water Views

The glass walls and glass elevators of the cruise ship provide spectacular views of the horizon and the seas from any part of the ship. Jewel of the Seas is decorated with exquisite art throughout the hallways and landings, and in the center atrium, along with the gleaming beauty of the space, there is the option to enjoy live music that changes in style daily. Among the now signatures features on any Royal Caribbean ship is the 33-foot high rock-climbing wall, but there is also a pool complete with water slides for kids, hot tub, and a heated pool where kids and adults can have ample fun while on the Jewel of the Seas.

Pool Tables, Custom Coffee Bar & Movie Theater At Sea

The list of optional activities is long and you will want to visit each at least once during your stay. There is a casino, a movie theatre, a video arcade, disco till the last dancer goes home, a sports bar for those who can't leave their favorite team news at home, a champagne bar, custom coffee bar, a rousing late night karaoke bar and many such leisure areas throughout the ship. The full service spa includes an excellent exercise facility outfitted with the latest exercising equipment.

Play 9 Holes of Miniature Golf or Play a Famous Course on the Simulator

There are two computerized self leveling pool tables for your enjoyment , a 9-hole miniature golf course that we loved even at midnight, the usual ping pong tables, a basketball court, a great golf simulator, shuffleboard and a jogging track as other main attractions of the ship, as well.

Various professional entertainers perform at different times of the day and the night in the theatre, along with large Las Vegas type review shows that play regularly. And for those who are less physical by nature, the ship also has backgammon and chess tables, along with a fantastic library for those who wish to enjoy a good book during their cruise. And, of course, there is plenty of deck space to simply sit in a deck chair, relax, and enjoy doing nothing at all. One of our favorite activities on any cruise is to just watch all our fellow passengers.

Staying Connected Is Easy

It's easy to stay connected to those back home as all the ships in this class are equipped with an advanced roaming network that allows use of mobile phones. For a small fee the internet connection has been taken up a level in connectivity, too, allowing WiFi service throughout the ship and even in your stateroom on your personal computer.

Dining

The restaurants of the vessel allow dining choices to be formal dining, snacking and casual dining as per the need and the mood. There are two optional restaurants on board, one, Portofino's, offering outstanding Italian cuisine and the other, Chops Grille, is a great steak house. Tides, the ship's main dining room, spans two decks. The focal point is a cascading waterfall. Tides offers the classic seating options at dinner, early and late, with assigned table mates, otherwise the restaurant operates under an "open seating" policy for breakfast and lunch. Tables for two are at a premium on most cruise itineraries.

Cabins Are Varied In Design

Staterooms on Jewel of the Seas cover classifications ranging from the basic Inside cabins to the way over the top Grand Suites complete with a baby grand piano.

Standard cabins (Balconies, Oceanview, Inside) feature the usual layout of twin beds that convert into a queen size bed, a dressing table, as well as a separate sitting area. The bathrooms are comfortably sized and are equipped with showers only. There are two different types of Family Suites, one with a living room and two bedrooms. The other is one large room, with bed and sofa, and a small bedroom. If a Suite is your selection, not only do you get more room, you also receive additional amenities such as luxurious upgraded bath products, whirlpool tubs, CD players, and access to the Concierge Lounge The largest Suite on board can accommodate as many as eight people.

A good value in between a standard Verandah and full fledged Suite is the Junior Suite cabin category. For a relatively small increase in your cruise rate over a standard Balcony cabin price, you get much more space, both inside and on the veranda, and a more expansive bathroom with tub and shower. However, guests of the Junior Suite do not qualify for any other official suite amenities such as upgraded toiletries, or use of the concierge service.

In all cabins, RCTV, the cruise line's interactive television, offers a first-rate range of channels. There are plenty of movies offered for free and pay-per-view - including a daily classic selection. Also, an in room reservations system that can book everything from room service to shore excursions is available, though you may want to make important reservations over the phone directly. There's also a hair dryer, mini safe, and room service is available around the clock in every cabin.

There is no doubt that you will find a lounge to make your own, an activity that will beckon you time and again, a restaurant that will become your favorite. Just like her sister ships in the Radiance Class of Royal Caribbean ships, the Jewel of the Seas cruise ship is one that offers countless choices and will make you wonder why you waited so long to take your first cruise vacation.
